Coumarin-containing stimuli-responsive block copolymers were synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization and also reversible addition-fragmentation chain-transfer polymerization which exhibited sensitivity of fluorescence emission intensity to pH and copper ion. In this way, poly(7-acryloyloxy 4-methylcoumarin-r-methyl methacrylate)-b-poly(dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) with different block lengths were synthesized and were self-assembled into a micellar morphology in an aqueous medium with the hydrophilic block of poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate).
