Vitrimers belong to the class of covalent adaptable networks polymers, which undergo dynamic, associative exchange reactions under thermal treatment, making these networks permanent as well as dynamic. Preparation of such materials from urethane prepolymers can lead to the preparation of vitrimers, which both can recover their thermal and mechanical properties during heating/cooling recycling steps and can inherit the very useful properties of urethane compounds. In the current work, the vitrimer-based urethane moieties were synthesized, and their properties were investigated compared to polyurethane polymers at 5 recycling cycles. The results indicate that the vitrimer polymers have appropriate mechanical and thermal properties compared to polyurethane polymers during different recycling terms, which can make these compounds an extraordinary replacement for polyurethane polymers.
