مهندسي سيستم ها همواره كل مساله را، شامل كل چرخه عمر سيستم، كل ذينفعان و كل نيازهاي فني و نيازهاي كسب و كار را در نظر دارد. استفاده از مهندسي سيستم در موضوع قابليت اطمينان و اعتماد منجر به ايجاد مهندسي قابليت اطمينان و قابليت اعتماد شده است. به زبان ساده مهندسي قابليت اطمينان و اعتماد دانش و رشته اي است كه به بهينه سازي قابليت اطمينان و اعتماد در چرخه عمر سيستم ها با فرض بهينه بودن هزينه مورد نياز مي پردازد. علي رغم افزايش استفاده از مفهوم مهندسي قابليت اطمينان و اعتماد در سيستمها و تنوع كاربردهاي آن در بخشهاي مختلف، تفاوت اين دو مدل و فرآيند آنها در چرخه عمر سيستم و ابزارهاي سيستمي مورد استفاده در هر كدام از موضوعاتي است كه كمتر به طور منسجم به آن پرداخته شده است. بنابراين، تعاريف آنها و ايجاد يك چارچوب كلي به منظور مدلسازي، ارزيابي و بهبود آنها براي سيستمهاي مهندسي يك نياز فوري و ضروري مي باشد لذا در اين مقاله، مروري بر برخي از تعاريف مهندسي سيستم و چرخه هاي عمر محصول و مهندسي قابليت اطمينان و مهندسي قابليت اعتماد و ابزارهاي سيستمي مورد استفاده درآنها شده است.

Systems engineering considers the whole problem, including the whole system life cycle, the whole stakeholders and the whole technical and business needs. The use of system engineering in the issue of reliability and dependability has led to the creation of reliability and dependability engineering. In simple words, reliability and dependability engineering is a knowledge and discipline that deals with optimizing reliability and trust in the life cycle of systems, assuming optimality of the required cost. Despite the increasing use of the concept of reliability and trust engineering in systems and the diversity of its applications in different sectors, the difference between these two models and their processes in the life cycle of the system and the system tools used in each of them is one of the topics that has been less addressed. Therefore, their definitions and creating a general framework in order to model, evaluate and improve them for engineering systems is an urgent and necessary need, so in this article, an overview of some definitions of system engineering and product life cycles and reliability engineering and engineering dependability and system tools used in them
