A review on the polyelectrolyte microcapsules for smart anticorrosion systems

Polyelectrolyte based microcapsules have been widely used as anticorrosion agents in organic coatings. The use of this kind of materials has led to the introduction of a new generation of self-healing smart anticorrosion coating. The polyelectrolyte containers can trap corrosion inhibitors between polyelectrolyte layers by layerby-layer method to provide anticorrosion properties. Developing pH-sensitive micro containers with polyelectrolyte shell have attracted the researchersʹ attention in recent years. This review describes the microcapsules structures, layer-by-layer process, and their anticorrosion function. Also, the advantages and disadvantages of the microcapsules that used in anticorrosion smart coatings have been described. .
