Cinematic Adaptation of the Lord of the Rings in the Light of Post 9/11 Context and War on Terror Era

This paper intends to demonstrate how the rightness of historical moment can be influential in the reception and popularity of a certain adapted work. Tolkien’s epic fantasy, The Lord of the Rings, was first published in 1954, but was not adapted into a Hollywood movie until almost forty years later when a global “War on Terror” was declared. The world was experiencing a real-life ‘Good vs. Evil’ battle and the time was right for The Lord of the Rings – a film telling the story of a quest on the side of Good ones to abolish Darkness in the Middle Earth.
