A single-step dyeing and finishing (SDF) process was studied to eliminate dyeing problems associated with cotton cross-linked by polycarboxylic acid such as 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid (BTCA) and citric acid (CA). This process is as follows: (a) impregnation of the fabric by the bath containing BTCA, dye, catalyst and nano silver; (b) drying; and (c) curing at high temperature. The conventional methods (dyeing first and then finishing) also performed to compare with SDF process. FE-SEM images and EDS spectrum confirms the presence of nano silver in the surface of the cotton. Antimicrobial activity of treated fabric evaluated by AATCC 147 standard method. Wash fastness and staining effect also performed in ISO standard number C01. In addition Color strength of dyed fiber also measured by spectrophotometry. SDF process seems good performance along with time and cost efficiency. -- - -
