A waterborne polyurethane based on fluorescent dye 4-diamino propane-N-allyl- 1-8 naphthalimide (WPUDAN) was synthesized by ionomer process and by attaching dye to polymer chains. The structure of WPU-DAN was confirmed by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and UV-visible. Fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis and Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) were performed on self-colored polyurethane. The thermal stability of WPU-DAN was improved than WPU in which it can attributed to the naphthalimide units. Fluorescent intensities of WPU-DAN was higher than DAN
