Composite grid structures are a series of bands of attached fibers, widely used in a variety of industries,
particularly in manufacture of rockets, satellites and airplanes. Composite grid is the best kind of
structures proposed for resistance against axial compressive loads. In this study, buckling
characteristics of grid composite plates under axial load have been studied using numerical and
experimental methods. In this paper, three parameters of the composite thickness, cells and number of
cells is changed three times and the results for different reference samples are compared together. All
the specimens were subjected to pure axial loading for the buckling experiment. The boundary
condition is simple support and a compressive axial load. Results showed that the buckling load to
weight ratio increased by ٨ to 79 percent, relative to the reference case. Experimental and numerical
results of this study showed that for pure axial loading, the best grid shape for plates is the triangular
grid. The samples have been modeled and analyzed in the Abaqus FEM software. Obtained
experimental and numerical results were compared and it was seen that the two methods are in good
