Corrosion damage analysis of phosphated conversion coating and bare steel by image processing

Image processing analysis has been recently introduced as a feasible method for analyzing surface corrosion. In this paper, we apply color image processing to quantify corrosion surface damage. Corrosion damage is analyzed by estimating the percentage of corroded surface pixels obtained from digital images instead of electrochemical features. To calculate area of corrosion surface damage, we use the interpretation of HSV model. The results show that this method can be properly used as an automated identification system of corrosion damage.
