Computer scientists incorporate new features and facilities to the computer technology everyday. With
this enhancement in computer science, inevitable corresponding refreshment materializes in our
investigation to introduce cutting edge technologies in to the field of language learning and teaching. In
this respect, language learning courseware has been receiving growing attention by English teachers
recently. A variety of softwares have been designed by the English teachers and course designers to
supplement various language skills. This experimental study was undertaken with the aim of
invesgang how the applicaon of an English courseware (Interchange 1 by Jack. C. Richards by Ariana
Company) would affect the language learning and achievement of a group of Iranian English as a Foreign
Language (EFL) learners compared to those who resorted to traditional text books. We took an
integrative approach and had the participants, a group of pre-intermediate Iranian EFL learners, have
the entire language course in a computerized environment, receiving all the skills integratively through
the computer screen. The same course was embarked on by the control group who attended the regular
classroom environment and resorted to traditional textbooks. Although both groups’ progress was
significant, the results demonstrated tie between the traditional text book and its computerized version.
It was concluded that some facilities, catered for by computer coursewares, were neither unique nor of
extra help. Courseware designers should take EFL learner needs and expectations into account if they
want their computerized textbook versions to place language learners at a vantage point
