Vibration analysis of elastic cantilever beam with an unconstrained added viscoelastic layer (VEL) over the top side is presented. Assuming harmonic load at the free edge and complex analysis of roots of the governing equation, leads to solve a semi complex algebraic system. Frequency response and phase angle are plotted for various loss factors in an analytical solution. In order to find effects of VEL dimensions on vibration attenuation, the first resonant amplitude is illustrated versus VEL length and thickness ratios and an inconsistent behavior in amplitude decay is seen by increasing VEL length
