Designing a Fuzzy Expert System for Maintenance Scheduling

Repair and maintenance activities are among costly activities which need a great deal of time and money. But since, organizational resources are limited and scarce, scheduling to assign resources is essential. Maintenance schedules that minimize resource consumption or maximize availability can be determined through the use of quantitative decision-models based on factual information. In this paper, we developed an expert system based on fuzzy rules for determination of plan and timetable of preventive maintenance activities. Regard to linguistic variables in maintenance area, this approach seems to be robust and so, we believe that developed system empower managers to make maintenance decisions fast, more effectively, and safely.
