Attitudes of EFL learners towards CALL: A cross gender study

Due to the fact that computers have become a significant part of our lives, their application in language learning classes is becoming increasingly commonplace for language teachers and English as a foreign language (EFL) learners. It’s a fact that computer technology brings numerous facilities into language learning experience; however, the inclination of EFL learners to manipulate this technology should be considered too. This study intends to delve into EFL learners’ attitude towards Computer assisted language learning (CALL) with regard to their gender. 50 participants (25 males and 25 females) were selected and asked to fill out an A-CALL questionnaire after completing a two month English course in a computerized environment. The result demonstrated statistically significant difference in male and females’ attitude towards the use of CALL in language learning in seven items on the A-CALL questionnaire. Male students viewed the computer to be helpful in areas which females thought otherwise.
