An attempt toward reader autonomy in L1 (Persian) and L2(English) through Global and Local Reading Strategy Instruction(GLRSI) in L1

This study probes to find out if the instruction of global and local reading strategies (GLRSI) in L1 (Persian) will produce autonomous readers in L1 and L2 (English). 160 students of intermediate and advanced proficiency levels were selected and put into control and experimental groups. Each group received reading comprehension tests in L1 and L2 as well as a global and local reading strategy questionnaire as a retrospective measure of their strategic reading behavior. After the experimental group received GLRSI, post tests were administered. Analysis of data manifested that through GLRSI in L1 with L1 texts and tasks, readers will read autonomously both in L1 and L2.
