Abstract :
Structural characteristics in the region must also be considered for the calculations of loss life and property that will occur under an earthquake risk in the region. Earthquake damages will increase according to vulnerability of urban building stocks. The size of earthquakes and the negative structured features will be caused an increase in damage amount. Knowing the properties of buildings that have been negatively influence to the seismic behaviour of buildings under earthquakes will be put forward to ensure more serious approaches for reduce the level of damage risk after earthquakes. The majority of the existing building stocks in Turkey do not have enough safety. It is practically impossible to perform detailed experimental and analytical studies for each building to determine their collapse vulnerability because of time and money constraints. In this study, in order to be a sample for general existing buildings in Adilcevaz /Bitlis located in Lake Van Basin which is seismically quite active, the evaluation of existing buildings in Adilcevaz has been carried out through screening method. With this method existing structures have been evaluated quickly and the buildings that have damage risk have been determined. These buildings have to be subjected to a more detailed assessment. Evaluation calculations have been done for Adilcevaz District. Totally 603existing buildings have been evaluated. 487 of these buildings were reinforcement structures. 116 of these buildings were masonry and mixed buildings. %14 of these buildings will be examined in the middle priority; %28 in the low priority and %58 in the safety priority. This study will be a source for the future studies on the other existing structures of Adilcevaz.
