Abstract
In this study it was aimed to determine the importance of alphabet reform in Turkish modernization. Historical and descriptive research techniques were used in the study which was carried out with this aim. First of all modernization and Turkish modernization was mentioned, then the importance of alphabet reform in Turkish modernization was mentioned and the study was completed. At the end of the study, it was determined that reate of literacy increase in a short time with the alphabet reform which turned the face of country towards West. However it was concluded that there are traces of sudden and elitist approach in alphabet reform, like in Turkish modernization; this reform weakened current cultural dynamics and caused disconnection with the history of country and society lost its literacy due to change of alphabet.
