Abstract :
The quality of the pre-service education of the teachers is one of the key factors affecting the quality of teaching. In this sense, students’ level of knowledge and ability which they acquired during the classes in the faculties of education, is highly depended on the quality of the lecturers. Especially, the content knowledge capacity of the lecturers plays an important role in the effectiveness of the education. This research is a survey type descriptive study realized for the aim of clarifying content knowledge competences of the lecturers in Ziya Gökalp Education Faculty, within the frame of the opinions of candidate teachers. The students attending 2. 3. and 4. grades, in the Primary Education Department in Ziya Gökalp Education Faculty, constituted the population of the research. Since the 1. grade student did not address to the research aim, at the time of doing the research, they were not included into the research population. And, since there are more than one section at each grade, a section from each grade was chosen randomly to form the sample of the research, and the questionnaires were distributed to the sampling group. 466 of the replied survey were taken into consideration. The data were computed through parametric and non parametric analysis tests, according to independent variables such as gender, age and grade levels. Findings of the research revealed that there were significant differences between the opinions of candidate teachers, especially 2nd and 3rd graders found lecturers more competent than the 4^th graders did. Considering all the independent variables, it was understood that teacher candidates found lecturers competent at ‘sometimes’ level. Some recommendations were made concomitant with the obtained results.
