OPINION JOURNALISM IN SECOND CONSTITUTIONALIST PERIOD: SIRAT-I MÜSTAKĠM, ĠġTĠRAK, ĠÇTĠHAD and TÜRK YURDU
Abstract :
One of the most significant effects of second constitutionalist period was the outbreak that took place in the field of press. In this period, the concept of class conflict developed, different opinions began to spread and opinion journalism was founded in order to disseminate these ideas. Besides mainstream newspapers (Tasvir-i Efkar, Ceride-i Havadis, Tanin, İkdam etc.) to spread a specific idea, there were newspapers and journals such as Sırat-I Müstakim (1908) that was published towards Islamism, İştirak (1910) that was regarded as the representative of Leftism, Içtihad (1904) that was known as Westernist, and Tür kYurdu (1911) that was the representative of Turkism which is still published today, can be given as an example. These newspapers and magazines were followed by large mass of people and even they pioneered in spreading of the ideas they defended. In this research the analysis of newspapers and journals, representing four different opinions that we exemplified, is being performed. The main objective of this research is to find out how the seeds of these newspaper and journals regarded as the pioneers of today‟s opinion journalism movements were planted and to display how much they were effective.
