Title Of Article :
COMMON PROBLEMS IN TRANSLATION OF ENGLISH IDIOMS INTO TURKISH AND SOLUTIONS
Abstract :
Idioms are indispensable parts of a language. Besides the words forming idioms have different meanings from their real meanings, different culture and experiences of societies cause troubles both in understanding and translation process. Sometimes, the equivalent of the idiom in source language can not be found in target language. For example, idioms like ―harama uçkur çözmek‖, ―kocaya varmak‖ are completely culture oriented idioms. We can consider that translation is transferring a text in source language to another and it is inavitable to relate the translation with culture when customs, traditions and life styles are taken into consideration. In an acceptable translation, it is expected that the effect created for source language readers should be the same or at least similar for target language readers. In this respect, our aim in this article was determined to put forward the problems occuring in idiom translation and find solutions.
