Abstract
Technological advancements and proliferation of internet use in the world in recent years brought new communication technologies and enabled effective communication among people. These utilities provided people a medium in which they can share and discuss their thoughts. This virtual reality, called the social media, is important not only because it is user based, but also because it brings masses together and increases the level of interaction among them. This is a case study in which security services through instant information sharing by the public by means of social media and prohibition of random use of social media on behalf of the Turkish National Police by unauthorized persons are discussed. Also, in the context of social media, information sharing by members of the Turkish National Police via “forum” is evaluated.
