IN TERMS OF ARCHITECTURAL AND DECORATIONAL PROPERTIES SAİT PAŞA MANSION (SÜLEYMAN NAZİF HOUSE)
Abstract :
A home, besides being a house is building that provides for requirements such as physiological, sociological, and aesthetic and like economics. For the construction of the house the climate, the materials available in the region, the owner’s socio- economic status was taken as granted. Extended and rich families had more bulky and ornamental houses. Families with low financial situation had smaller and more modest houses. Once again under the influence of Islamic faith the privacy of home and the family is prominence. Therefore, the houses were designed as two sectioned; for men and women (harem and selam- siting separate), they demonstrate a closed feature to the exterior of the house. The sweltering heat of Diyarbakır had a great role in planning the houses. Our focus the Sait Paşa Mansion (Süleyman Nazif House) plan scheme influenced by the climate, social- economic status of the family, the population of the family and of course via faith the privacy has been taken as granted. Because of privacy sensitivity the mansion has been designed in two sections; as harem and selam. Since this mansion belongs to a wealthy and extended family the mansion is two- storied and again it has two sections. As the main basic material of the mansion’s construction basalt is used. The mansion demonstrates a plan scheme with courtyard and iwan. A squarish courtyard is in the middle and this courtyard is surrounded by antechamber by a row of rooms.
