Teachers’ Opinions about the Assessment and Evaluation Methods Employed in Elementary 4-5th grades School Science and Technology Teaching Programs
Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to elicit the 4 and 5of primary school teachers’ opinions about alternative assessment methods used in science and technology lessons. The present study employs qualitative research method. The sampling of the study consists of the teachers working in three elementary schools in Kocaeli central district selected among the universe through purposeful sampling method. The data were collected through semistructured interviews conducted with 26 classroom teachers where openended questions were used. Qualitative data were subjected to descriptive analysis and then classified under some certain categories. When the results of the study were examined, it was seen that the science and technology teachers adopted the teaching program but some problems emerged in the implementation of the program as they were not familiar enough with the program. In the end, teachers have been suggested for solutions these problems to reduce class size, adequate resources and provide in-service training.
