A Research on the Ethical Leadership of Primary School Administrators and the Organizational Trust Levels in Primary Schools: The Sample of İzmir
Abstract :
The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of the levels of ethical leadership of school administrators in primary schools in Izmir on the organizational trust level in schools. In this context, the level of differentiation of organizational trust level in schools was tested according to some variables. Population of the research consists of 18789 teachers working in primary schools under the Ministry of National Education in the province of Izmir, in the academic year 2011-2012. 5605 of these teachers were male and 13184 of them were female. 1042 surveys were sent to the teachers and 716 from the questionnaries returned were evaluated by taking into account the balance of male and female. In this study, “the scale of ethical leadership” was used in order to determine the ethical leadership levels of school administrators and “the scale of organizational trust in school” was used in order to determine the organizational trust level in primary schools. Sub-dimensions of ethical leadership are communicative ethics, climatic ethics, ethics in decisionmaking and behavioring ethics. And sub-dimensions of organizational trust are awareness for employees, trust to administrator, communication environment and openness to innovations. Following conclusions were reached in this research. Ethical leadership skills of school administrators significantly effect the organizational trust level in primary schools in Izmir. It’s observed that with increasing level of education in primary school teachers in Izmir, they find the organizational trust level insufficient. According to the findings, there isn’t any significant relationship between the status of being a member of a trade union for the teachers and trust to administrator, communication environment and openness to innovation which are sub-dimensions of organizational trust.
