Investigation The Perception of Teacher Candidates About Multiculturism and Multicultural Education
Abstract :
This study was carried out in order to analyze the perceptions of teacher candidates about the concepts of multiculturalizm and multicultural education at the level of knowledge and attitudes. Nowadays, one of the most important topics discussed in the current ideology of the concept of multiculturalism is important to research on what is happening. The study was planned in the framework of qualitative research by using case study pattern. It was carried out with 24 female and 21 male, in total 45 students from Social Sciences Teaching Department. Research datas were obtained by use of interviews. The datas obtained in the research were collected under certain codes and themes through content analyzes. In consequence of the data analyzes, it was concluded that the teacher candidates have true and false learnings about the concepts of multiculturalism and multicultural education and their attitude levels were detected as both positive or negative. So, it is thought that it would be beneficial for the teacher candidates to get multiculturalizm and multicultural education in professional training process. Implementation of the operations to be planned about multiculturalism and multicultural education applications with the variables included in the process will provide benefits in terms of both enabling the subject to be evaluated from different points and to enrich the literature of it.
