Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to determination of the teachers working in special education differed according to the barrier type of empathic tendencies and examination of trends in empathic tendencies of some variable. A total of 664 teacher participated in the study. Participants were recruited from public elementary schools located in Istanbul. These teachers were divided into five groups: working for children with intellectual impairments, children with hearing impairments, children with visual impairments, children with autism and the other impairments. Study data were gathered by using the Emphatic Tendency Scale which was developed by Dökmen (1998). Findings from the study showed that emphatic tendency scale scores of teachers working in special education were compared to their gender (woman), willingly chose the profession or not (willingly chose the profession), love the career or not (love the career) and level of empathic inclinations of the teachers is shown significantly difference.
