The Attitudes of University Students Concerning Foreign Language Courses
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to analyze attitudes of first and second year students towards “English I” and “English II” courses as a common compulsory course in terms of some variables. The study was carried out with 300 first and second year students in Faculty of Education at Yüzüncü Yıl University. Data of the research was collected by using “Attitude Scale on Affective Domain in English Classes” developed by Gömleksiz (2003). In the analysis of data collected, descriptive statistics (frequency and percentages) were benefited; t-test and variance analysis (ANOVA) were used to analyze the relations among the students’ attitudes towards English course and gender, grade level, department, type of school. As a result of the research, it was found that attitude of the students towards English is positive and doesn’t change in terms of gender, grade level, department and type of school they graduated at .05 significance level.
