An Examination of Inquiry Skills of Prospective Teachers by Some Variables
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to investigate pre-service teachers’ inquiry skills in term of gender, level of grade and department. In this study, survey method was used which is one of the approaches of quantitative research. The research was conducted to 305 teacher candidates attending primary school, social studies and science teacher training programs at the first, second, third and fourth grades in 2013-2014 academic years in Education Faculty of Amasya University. Study data were gathered by using the Inquiry Skills Scale which was developed by Aldan Karademir Saracaloğlu (2013). Data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 statistical software. According to the findings of the statistical analysis, there is not a significant difference among teacher candidates’ scores that were obtained from inquiry skills scale considering the variables such as gender, level of grade and department. Research findings indicated that teachers’ questioning skills are at a good level. Accordingly, teachers are supposed to reflect these skills to the education field when they start teaching.
