The Views of Teachers about the Curriculum of Science Revised for Secondary Schools
Abstract :
In the law for Turkish education system, which is called 4+4+4 and concerning primary level, science curriculum revised for elementary and secondary schools was issued and implemented in 2013. Starting from the necessity of examining the views of teachers who are the practitioners of the programs, the purpose of this research is to determine the opinions of science and technology teachers about the change in the science curriculum of secondary schools (5-8. Grades). This research was conducted with 18 volunteer science and technology teachers working in the city centre of Eskişehir by using qualitative research method between 2012-2013 academic year. The data collected through semi-structured interviews in the current research were analyzed with the descriptive data analysis technique. As a result of the research, it can be told that the teachers stated both positive and negative opinions about the revised curriculum of science. The teachers have positive opinions about the changes such as reduction of the objectives, changing of the places of the subjects, and enhanced applicability of the program. On the other hand, they have some negative opinions about the issues such as lack of sample applications for learning-teaching processes, lack of consideration on teachers’ opinions, lack of sample applications about assessment-evaluation processes.
