Investigating Classroom Teachers Perceptions about Art and Aesthetic Field Competencies on the Basis of Some Variables
Abstract :
In this study, it is aimed to determine classroom teachers’ perceptions about their competencies in art and aesthetic and investigate the relationships between those perceptions and some variables. Co-relational survey model was adopted in the study. Population of the study comprises approximately 861 classroom teachers who work in city of Trabzon. Sample of the study selected from the population through group sampling and on the basis of neutrality principle and consists of 480 classroom teachers. In the study the “Art and Aesthetic Competency Scale” which is developed by the researcher was used as data collection instrument. Data were analyzed according to gender, teaching experience variables. In the analysis, mean score, frequency, percentage, independent group t-test, one way variance analysis and Tukey test were utilized. According to the findings of the study, in the field of art and aesthetic,acquiring the necessary knowledge, application and looking aesthetic dimensions classroom teachers perceive themselves partially competent. It is also found that there are meaningful differences between teachers’ competency perceptions and gender, visiting an art exhibition and doing art variables. In the study, it can be concluded that classroom teachers’ interests in art exhibitions and dealing with art affects their art and aesthetic competencies in a positive way.
