    The Effect Of Visual Supported Writing Activities On Students’ Writing Success And Opinions For Writing

  • Abstract
    In this study, aimed to examine the effect of writing activities with the support of visual materials to the students success in writing and their thoughts about writing. The research was applied on the 8th grade students at City of Adana, Kozan County, Cumhuriyet Elementary school. At the data collecting stage, the developed “Written Expression Evaluation Scale” and “The Scale About Students Thoughts On Development Of Writing Ability” is used. In this study, to test the hypothesis, a quantitative method, initial and final test controlled mixed model is used. The test and control groups with 27 subjects that the study will applied to are determined with the initial testing application to two different schools 8th graders. During the three week application, different topic each week, two hour time is given to test and control groups for writing: visual materials about the topic shown to the test group for brainstorming and nothing done to the control group. When the findings of the research analyzed, there is significant difference in favor of test group in terms of language, expression and planning of the writing. There is a significant difference with written expression evaluation form and between the grades of the students as a result of the visual supported writing activities [t(26)= 11,97, p≤ 0.05]. As a result of the visual supported writing activities in terms of the contents of the written expression evaluation form there is a significant difference between the grades [t(26)= 14,86, p≤ 0.05]. There is a significant difference between the grades in terms of the language and expression [t(26)= 5,93, p≤ 0.05]. In terms of the planning there is a significant difference between the grades [t(26)= 9,55, p≤ 0.05]. As a result, visual supported writing activities are an effective application for the development written expression ability of the students.
