Abstract :
The aim of this study is analyzing daily newspapers in terms of values which are given in social studies curriculum. Within the context of that in total 150-days newspapers by five major topics which were; headlines, advertisements, images, columns and reports, investigated by document analyzing in the basis of 20 values that are in Social Studies curriculum; besides, the opinions of primary school teachers on making use of newspapers for values education, were tried to be defined as a means of face-to-face interviews that had been made with 24 primary school teachers. Following the document searches, it was specified that all of the values in Social Studies curriculum are seen in newspapers at different rates. As results of interviews, several findings were obtained such as: Reasons of primary school teachers for benefiting or not from newspapers throughout values education processes; the ways their using of newspapers and the practices they carry out; the parts which from they make use of newspapers most; the values that they think they encounter most in newspapers; the opinions on negative contents take place in newspapers; advices for protecting children from negative contents; contents which should be shown in a newspaper that is released for children. Some suggestions were given in the light of these results.
