THE ROLE OF REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCIES FOR ELIMINATING REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT DISPARITIES IN TURKEY: CASE OF İZKA FINANCIAL SUPPORT PROGRAMS
Abstract :
Regional development, which has been considered as part of economic development, is also an important instrument in providing community equity. It, especially after World War II, has taken an important role in fixing communal catastrophe that the war created. In fact, regional development approach is not thought to be apart from Keynesian economic model. Implementations of regional development policy can be observed in developed countries as much as in developing countries today. Many policies aiming to eliminate regional development diversities in Turkey have been put into practise especially by the beginning of planned development period. Yet it is hard to say that this has been accomplished so far. It was decided to set up development agencies intended for regional development. Thanks to development agencies, regional development can be assured by putting forward the regional dynamics. In this study financial support of Izmir Development Agency is examined. As a result of the support of financial support program, employment increase was seen and positive changes were detected in the production and production capacity.
