A Study on Concept of City by Rural Population in Turkey: Yesilyurt Village (Trabzon)
Abstract :
In developing countries like Turkey, there has been a rapid process of migration from rural areas into city centers. This process has created some problems along with it both as regards rural areas and cities. Thus, the understanding of city by rural population as the source of migration into cities is important. The findings may direct the studies towards providing the wholeness of rural and city.In our study, the understanding of city by rural population was investigated. For this purpose, 184 persons from Yesilyurt village, Trabzon, were questionnaired. Data were analyzed by SPSS and findings were tabulated and evaluated.The study revealed some findings regarding understanding of city by villagers. Although the individuals in rural areas regarded cities as centres of education, health, shopping and business, a great number of them are not willing to settle into cities. Besides, environmental pollution, overpopulation, traffic problems and noise pollution are among the factors they decrease the value of cities.
