Abstract :
Like philosophy, history and mathematics; geography is one the oldest sciences from the end of the 3rd century B.C. to this day, studies under the name of g egraph e or geoprafica have been carried out. Today,in almost every country geography education is part of the curriculum in elementary and secondary schools, while research and applications related to geography are conducted in higher education.In this context, in Turkey education and research in geography together with the training of teachers of geography have been carried out, at least, since the beginning of the 20th century. However, it is evident in this science that there is no consensus among researchers as to the important issues related to the scientific method. For example, the main theme, certain research methods, principles of thought and the techniques of expression. In my opinion, the fact that in Turkey the ideas analyzed and synthesized by the founders of this science and the geographers raised by them in their studies are not sufficiently understood plays an important role in this serious problem.I am of the opinion that presenting the main issue and research methods, principles of thought and expression techniques in an ordered way in our study will contribute to the issues of the main theme and method will assist geography teachers, undergraduate students and postgraduate researchers to develop a way of overcoming the above mentioned problems.
