The Importance of Çal Cave (Düzköy-Trabzon) and its Surroundings as Regards Ecotourism Potential
Abstract :
Çal Cave is located within Çal County at an altitude of 1050 meters, 5 kilometres southwest of Düzköy town, Trabzon. The entrance of the cave is on Kulaklık stream on the first kilometre of the stabilized road from Çalköy to Çayırbağı. It is at a distance of 32 kilometres to Akçaabat and 45 kilometres to Trabzon. The cave was opened to tourism with the completion of lighting, walking platforms and various other facilities. Çal cave is one of the most significant tourism attractions of the region with its stalactites and stalagmites, underground stream and waterfall.Çal cave and its surroundings have have a number of attractions with their natural and cultural resources. With this peculiarity, they are among important ecotourism sites in Turkey. In addition to cave tourism, they have the potential for mountain and high plateau tourism, cultural tourism, botanical tourism and rural tourism which make possible various recreational activities based on nature.
