Abstract
The cultivation of hazelnuts is an important element in the Turkish economy and is among the traditional exports. Turkey possesses nearly 80% of the world’s hazelnut gardens and is in the top ranking of hazelnut production.In this examination, ecological conditions that are necessary for effective hazelnut cultivation were addressed and an explanation of the geographical distribution of gardens and main geographical factors which affect production is given. The growth in hazelnut cultivation especially after 1950 and the problems that this growth brought will be presented. Furthermore, an organized bibliography will be given concerning hazelnut cultivation and associated trade.
