A Study in Terms of Cultural Geography: Historical Kağızman Houses
Abstract :
Turkey is located to Anatolian and Thrace, which has the position of bridge between East and West civilizations, takes a part in its geography and inheritor of rooted civilizations. Approximately more than 1000 years Turk-Islam states exist in this area. Some of this area was occupied for a short and long time period in the historic period.Northeast Anatolia (Kars, Ardahan, Iğdır provinces) is one of the occupation regions, which was occupied after Ottoman-Russian war in 1877-1878.Approximately for 40 years the region was under rule of Russian Czardom. After Russian occupation, Armenian forces controlled this area almost one year, finally entered Turkish sovereignty in 1918.Cultural interaction is intense in this region and house types form the most beautiful examples of this interaction. For 40 years of sovereignty period, Russia aimed to be permanent in the region, gave special attention to reconstruction of the cities and make construction as planned.The study area; Kağızman city own a house type which is a synthesis between Russian construction style and Turkish construction. Historical Kağızman houses were approached to aim advertising the houses and suggested to protect, redound as its touristic scaled values.
