Correlation between Critical Thinking and Media Literacy of Social Sciences Pre-service Teachers
Abstract :
This study aimed at analyzing the correlation between critical thinking and media literacy of Social Sciences pre-service teachers. The population of the study was pre-service teachers studying at Atatürk University Kazım Karabekir Education Faculty in 2014-2015 academic year. The sample which was determined via criterion sampling method consisted of 284 Social Sciences 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade pre-service teachers. The data of the study were gathered through California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory adapted by Kökdemir (2003) and Media Literacy Level Scale developed by Karaman Karataş (2009). In analyzing data, frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson-product moment correlation and Multiple Linear Regression were used. The findings showed that the critical thinking tendency of pre-service teachers predicted their media literacy at %0.04 level.
