Counselors’ Intervention of the Cultural Factors that have Elements of Resistance in Group Counseling
Abstract :
In group counseling process, some cultural factors cause resistance. In this article, a number of control strategies synthesized through a review of literature concerning how to handle resistance caused by cultural and other factors have been developed and analyzed. When resistance is examined, some preventive strategies have been identified to control resistance caused by cultural factors. In this study, it was aimed to utilize the effective methods of coping with resistance. Firstly, a serious organizational approach should be adopted in primarily Counseling and Guidance Education by employing fundamental preventive approaches, and social and cultural factors should be incorporated in the curriculum. Then, resistance should be worked on using effective communication patterns and relevant techniques. By means of effective basic prevention and culturally adapted counseling theories, it is believed that resistance caused by cultural factors can be eliminated.
