Elementary Classroom Teachers’ Beliefs on In-Service Training via Distance Education
Abstract :
In-service training is an educational activity that provides teachers with professional adaptation, professional progression and development. Distance education is a teaching method which teachers and students do not have to share the same place with less training cost. Offering in-service training via distance education to teachers provides alternative opportunities in meeting the training needs of them. The aim of this study was to determine teachers’ beliefs on in-service training via distance education. Thus, elementary school teachers beliefs on in-service training via distance education were examined in terms of gender, whether they have previously taken a course via distance education and seniority. The study was designed by survey model and was carried out with 135 elementary classroom teachers working in Sakarya during the spring semester of 2012-2013 academic years. The “Survey of Offering In-service Training via Distance Education Belief” developed by researches was used as data collection tool. Significant differences were found on elementary classroom teachers’ beliefs in terms of gender and seniority. However, there were no significant differences in terms of taking a course via distance education previously.
