Abstract :
Seasonal distribution and development of epilithic diatome and physicochemical features of stream have been investigated by monthly taken samples between February 2008-January 2009 from 7 station selected in Köprüçay River. The average values of physicochemical parameters have been determined; water temperature 13,94 oC, pH 8,09, conductivity 501,08 μS/cm, turbidity 26,95 NTU, bicarbonate (HCO-3) 197,99 mg/L, carbonat (CO-3) 5,74 mg/L, chloride (Cl-) 68,52 mg/L, ammonium nitrogen (NH4-N) 0,09 mg/L, nitrite nitrogen (NO-2-N) 0,005 mg/L, nitrate nitrogen (NO-3-N) 0,42 mg/L, phosphate phosphorus (PO4-3-P) 0,12 mg/L, dissolved oxygen 8,92 mg/L, organic matter 1,25 mg/L, biological oxygen demand (BOD5) 3,10 mg/L, total hardness 223,54 CaCO3 mg/L, sulphate (SO42-) 27,39 mg/L, calcium (Ca+2) 57,35 mg/L, magnesium (Mg+2) 19,93 mg/L, salinity 0,25 ppt. Total 119 taxa have been determinated belong to Bacillariophyta as epilithic. In the benthic habitat, Navicula, Nitzschia, Cymbella, Gomphonema have had the highest number of taxa. Benthic species consistently observed in the stream have change according to seasonal but Achnanthidium minutissimum, Cymbella affinis, Cocconeis placentula, Diatoma vulgaris, Ulnaria ulna had cosistently observed. Water quality have been determined according to physicochemical values and algae and compared with each other. In the Köprüçay River for determined water quality according to algae have been applied Saprobi İndex (SI), Trophi Diatom İndex (TDI). 1th, 2th 3th, 4th, 5th, 6th stations were very little polluted organically, 7th station was little polluted organically. Physicochemical parameters have been eveluated according to the Klee (1991) methods, first 6 station was very little polluted organically according to physicochemical variation, 7th station was little polluted. Nitzschia has been taxa the most number of species. Frequency and dominance of epilithic algae growing in the stream have been investigated. Dominance taxa showed difference according to stations and month. Sørensen similarity index have been used in order to determine similarity between stations along the river. In the study area, while 3th and 4th sampling points have been areas the most similar to each other, 1th and 6th, 1th and 7th sampling points have been areas the less similar to each other.
