Abstract :
The main purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between primary school teachers’ and principals’ self-efficacy and resistance to change. The data in the research, which is a descriptive survey model, were collected from working group of 274 teachers and 43 principals working in the central districts of Mersin using disproportional sampling method. Self-efficacy Belief Scale (10 items) was used in the research to determine the self-efficacy beliefs of teachers and principals, and Resistance to Change Scale (17 items) to determine their views about resistance to change. According to the results obtained, there is not a significant difference between teachers’ and principals’ views about resistance to change. However, there is a significant difference in emotional reaction dimension of resistance to change according to teachers’ gender. It is understood that female teachers show more emotional reaction than male teachers. There is not a significant difference between principals’ and teachers’ views about resistance to change and self-efficacy and teachers’ views about resistance to change and self-efficacy according to gender. Correlation analysis show that there is a significant negative relationship between teachers’ “self-efficacy” and “short term focus” as a dimension of resistance to change. It has not been seen a significant relationship between other dimensions.
