Abstract
This study aims at identifying whether there is a relation between learning styles and sight-reading abilities of piano students. The study allowed for identifying learning styles for students taking piano lessons in the department of music education as students are put on a test for sight-reading abilities and findings are compared. The Kolb Learning Style Inventory is benefited in identifying learning styles of the students in this study in which survey model and experimental application used together. Sight-reading grades are acquired via ‘’a Sight Track’’ and ‘’a Sight Assessment Scale’’ by a researcher. This study is performed in an effort to identify whether there is a relation between dominant learning styles and sight-reading abilities of the 31 students who’s having piano course. The grades are put on some statistical transactions and it turns out that the learning style of the students with ability high in sight-reading is assimilator as those with ability relatively lower in sight-reading have a diverger learning style.
