A Case Study on Impact of Student Course-Attendance on Exam Grades
Abstract :
The significant impact of student course-attendance on student academic success is apparent in several scientific studies. However, most of these scientific studies took semester cumulative grade as student success indicator. On the other hand, there are few scientific suggestion on how to increase student course-attendance, although, it is generally among the instructional advices. Furthermore, considerable number of available scientific suggestions rely on administrative measures in increasing student course-attendance. However, promoting intrinsic need for attendance in students is more effective than forcing them by administrative regulations. This study is different than the previous ones in examining the relation between course-attendance and academic achievement not only in semester total grade, but also in in-semester examinations as well. Additionally, suggestions for enhancing student academic achievements are presented by the help of the indicators which demonstrate that the change in instructional methodology has impact on the observed academic success.
