    The Effect Of The Type Of The High School From Which University Students are Graduated on Mathematical Achievement and Critical Thinking Disposition

  • Abstract
    The objective of this study is to examine the effect of the high school type of the university students on academic achievement and disposition for critical thinking. The study has a relation screening model. The study included critical thinking dispositions of students and their academic achievements in mathematics as dependent variables and their scores for attitudes towards mathematics as common variable. The study group of the research consists of 525 first year students at the Adnan Menderes University taking mathematics course during the Fall Semester of the academic year of 2011–2012. One-Way MANCOVA was used in analysing the data. It was observed that the data set provided all assumptions of one-way MANCOVA. According to the findings, it was concluded that there was a significant difference between both critical thinking and academic achievement averages according to the sub groups of school type factor. It was determined that the effect of school type on academic achievement was higher than the same on critical thinking.
