A Study on Information Literacy Self-efficacies and Lifelong Learning Competences of Pre-Service Teachers
Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between the information literacy self-efficacy of pre-service teachers and their lifelong learning competences. The sample group for the research comprised a total of 313 pre-service teachers that studying in the Faculty of Education in a university of the Marmara Region during the spring term of the 2013–2014 academic year. The “Key Competences for Lifelong Learning” scale and the “Information Literacy Self-efficacy” scale were used for the research. Independent-samples t-test and one-way ANOVA were conducted to examine the differences and also correlation and regression analyses were used to examine the relationships between variables. The results showed that pre-service teachers’ perceptions towards their lifelong learning competencies are sufficient and perceptions towards information literacy self-efficacy are quite sufficient. A significant difference was found between pre-service teachers’ perceptions towards their lifelong learning competencies and the gender, frequency of using Internet and department. The findings of the research revealed a positive and moderate relationship between the perceptions towards their lifelong learning competencies of pre-service teachers and their perceptions towards information literacy self-efficacy.
