The Importance of the Social Municipality in Relation to Urban Poverty in Turkey
Abstract :
Urban poverty has become a major problem all over the world in parallel to increasing urbanization and rapid population growth in cities. Especially in an environment which consists of unbalanced and unhealthy urbanization, the issue of urban poverty has dramatic consequences. The rapidly growing demand for urban services requires a much more efficient use of scarce public resources, and the most important duty of the state and local governments seems to be suggesting solutions and implementations. In the context of urban poverty, local governments which are known to be the closest form of government to the people make certain changes possible. Setting out from this point, in this study, the social municipality model as recommended for adoption by municipalities is examined through a concise yet robust review of the relevant literature.
