Abstract :
Each geomorphological formation attracting the attention of people is a natural monument. These land forms can occur at any stage of geomorphological development and they can disappear for a variety of reasons over the course of time. Due to their importance as a tourism resource, the importance of natural monuments is gradually increasing. Burdur is located inland, behind the coastline of south-western Anatolia. Therefore, the tourism values in the promotion of Burdur Province are important. If these natural monuments are evaluated, there are a large number of geomorphological monuments in Burdur Province. Karstic landscape, tectonic fashioning, climate change, mass movements and rivers, such different factors and processes have resulted in the interesting landforms of Burdur. These include: canyons, caves, natural bridges, sink-holes, fairy chimneys that occurred through the outpouring of methane and fossil areas. Landforms regarded as natural monuments mostly have developed within the Mesozoic limestone and Neogene period Burdur Formation. The irregular distribution of these natural formations shows in the territory of the province with some of them far from the main transportation routes and therefore difficult to access. The main aim of this study was to determine those geo-morphological features that can be seen as natural monuments of Burdur Province, to investigate the contribution they could make to the promotion and protection efforts in the province for tourism.
