Abstract :
When the World War I broke out, SMS Emden Cruiser was in German base in Pacific Ocean. When the German fleet which took action in order to relieve the burden of Germany in Europe, was moving towards the American continent, upon Britain’s declaration of war on Germany; Emden left the fleey and moved towards the west. Due to its combats, SMS Emden became a nightmare for the British, French and Russian fleet. The cruiser sank by Sydney of Australia, off the shores of Cocos Islands, following an intense hunt, motivated the allies during the war going on in those days. While Emden Cruiser putting its stamp on naval military history due to the pirate-like attacks, and its crew members became legend, they also became nightmare for the British and their allies. The significant crew members of Emden Cruiser including Hellmuth von Mücke, the commander, went ashore in Yemen after a long follow. Yemen, of Ottoman Empire, was a combat field against the British in the World War I. Those who went ashore, did not have any idea of where they were. The adventure of the crew members is limited only to what Mücke wrote in his journal. This historical case, about which limited information is known, is revised and re-evaluated after intense research carried out in the military archives in Turkey.
