The firstaid knowledge levels and attitude of the teachers who work in Isparta city center
Abstract :
Objective: This study has been planned in order to evaluate the level of first aid knowledge and to detect the problems teachers face and to determine their attitude towards the educational studies related to first aid among the teachers who work in the Isparta city center. Material-Method: 364 teachers in total have been achieved in 12 primary schools and 7 high schools that are randomly selected in the provincial center of Isparta. Survey sheet with 24 questions overall, including 5 descriptive questions, 12 questions of first aid knowledge and 7 questions about their attitude related to first aid has been answered with the survey method of observation. The teachers point of first aid knowledge (FKP) has been calculated out of 12 points by giving 1 point per every true answer of the 12 first aid questions. Results: The average FKP among teachers were 7.07±1.92. FKP of women were considerably higher than that of men. Also the avarage FKP of the teachers who work in primary schools (7.29±1.97) were considerably higher than the teachers who work in high schools (6.79±1.84). The questions of the subjects which were given the least wrong answers were, respectively, approach to burned patients, the patients who drank acidic or basic liquids and the patients who have bleeding nose. Most common situations which require first aid are told to be, respectively, hemorrhage, fainting, fracture and protuberants. 38.5% of them had had first aid training before. 86% of the teachers mentioned that they didn t find their first aid knowledge level sufficient whereas 81% expressed their will to acquire first aid knowledge. Conclusion: It has been established that FKP of teachers is mediocre, the majority of them find themselves insufficent about first aid and are willing to take part in future training courses.
